The first semester in the A Tajweed Journey course starts after Eid on Monday, April 7th, 2025, inshaAllah.
However, the Ramadan program will start on Monday, March 3rd, 2025.

Students learn one tajweed rule a week by attending a live class or listening to the recording, as well as focus on one surah from Juz ‘Amma to apply the rule of recitation.
Students study a tajweed analysis of the surah, listen to it throughout the week with our recommended reciters before submitting their recitation for personalized feedback.
Students also have the option to fill in the weekly course workbook that goes along with the lesson, and memorize or write the surah in Arabic along with its translation.

Live classes are on Mondays at 1:30pm, Tuesdays 9am, and Thursday at 5pm - Toronto, Canada, Time.
We have classes on different days and times to accommodate the various time zones and schedules. You only need to attend one class each week because the content is the same.
Attending the live classes is optional. Many of our students rely on the recording to learn the tajweed rules and to review the content.

There are 3 semesters in the course, each semester is 12 weeks long.
We will be covering all the Tajweed rules needed to recite The Quran perfectly in 3 parts (levels). Each Level takes 12 weeks to complete. There are breaks during each semester and between each level.

All sisters who sign up for this course need to know how to read The Quran. It’s ok if you are struggling to read and do not know all the Tajweed rules.
We are looking for sisters who are dedicated to learning and have a desire to learn all the rules needed to recite The Quran properly.

Yes! After enrollment into our course, student will have a short Quran assessment with Shaykhah Mariam and/or Ustathah Nichole to determine their level and be placed into groups.

We teach Tajweed practically, so that you can actually apply the rules of Quran recitation to your recitation.
Our course also leads to an Ijazah program upon completion.
We teach the Tajweed rules in a practical manner, listen and correct recitation, help sisters memorize parts of The Quran, encourage them to read the translation, and take Quran quizzes to test their knowledge of what they read.
Sisters will be supported in a private community and will have access to their instructors to ask any Quran related questions they may have.
Study guides and worksheets will also be provided. Quran events with guest speakers will also be organized for sisters to remain driven and inspired on this journey.
Most Quran classes focus on only one thing, whereas our course combines many to provide sisters with a comprehensive Quran experience.
We want sisters to use all their senses during this course - listen to recitations, practice reading out loud, write the ayat; all of this can be done in a beautiful smelling space after having a healthy meal or nourishing drink.
We have 40+ years of teaching experience between the two of us and have taught hundreds of students.
We have combined our love for teaching and what our students have requested to create a course that is truly unique!

Your main resources for this course are your mushaf and Shaykhah Mariam’s 25 years+ experience in teaching Tajweed and issuing ijazaat.
We created our own PDF study guides and worksheets for students. They will include a summary of the weekly class, helpful tips to learn the rules and written exercises to help rememberer the content.
We will reference several Tajweed books that are in both English and Arabic with our students as well, especially At-Tajweed Al-Musawwar by Dr. Ayman Swaid.

This course is for any sister who is able to read from the mushaf and would like to improve her Quran recitation and learn all the rules of Tajweed.
We welcome complete beginners, as well as Ijazah students and Quran teachers to perfect their Quran recitation with us.
Each student will have a quick Quran assessment at the beginning of the course to determine their level.

No. This is a Tajweed course, not an Ijazah program.
However, depending on the Quran level a student enters our course with and the time commitment and dedication she puts into the course, she may be eligible to enter our Ijazah program after graduation. This is determined through a Quran assessment.
